Jeremiah Hurta

"The air is talking to me. Then I just create and go with it - so far, it hasn't failed me yet. I favor blue and green colors and my recent art involves creating art outlines that the buyers can paint. This creates truly a unique piece of collaboration between the artist and the owner.”

Jeremiah Hurta is a local Austinite who attended the University of Texas at Austin. In 1974 he was elected to be the first Art Club president at Anderson High School here in Austin. He has been attending our open studio 1 to 2 times a week for more than 30 years now. He says insanity is his inspiration - and that he lets the canvas talk to him. "The air is talking to me - whether it's people talking or things like that. Then I just create and go with it - so far, it hasn't failed me yet." As one of the few artists who only use canvas, he’s found it works out to be cheaper for him than paper. He favors blue and green colors, though his recent art involves creating art outlines that his buyers can paint. This creates truly unique pieces of collaboration between the artist and the owner. He’s happy to say he is no longer homeless and currently residing in housing. Hurta says that any time he wakes up and knows that he's either going to be creating or doing something are his favorite memories. His favorite food is Tex-Mex.
