How Creating Art Builds Confidence
Participating in a form of art is necessary at every stage of life. Humans are creative creatures that have a deep need to create and share what they create. Art is a great way for humans to discover their value whether you are 1 years old, 21 years old or 120 years old. The urge to create never fades.
Sense of Accomplishment
It feels good to finish a project. It feels good to cross something off your to-do list. That’s why after spending hours crafting a piece of art there is a sense of pride and accomplishment. When everything seems to be going wrong in your life or you have an issue that you don’t want to think about, painting can give you an escape from your reality.
Earned Compliments
It’s not only great when you see value in your artwork but when other people appreciate your hard work as well. Not everyone requires the same amount of verbal praise but it builds self-esteem to hear that someone else likes what you created. It creates a personal connection, however brief, with another human when you enjoy the same art.
Monetary Value
While money isn’t the motivator for creating art it doesn’t hurt to have someone see so much value in your art that they are willing to pay to own it. Knowing that you created something that someone wants to hang in their home or office and look at everyday is a wonderful feeling. In a way the art immortalizes the artist. Furthermore, if people commission art from you it means they were so impressed by your art that they want an original piece made for them.
Skill Building
Much like woodworking and metalsmithing, painting is a skill that requires practice for most people. It can be very frustrating to have an idea in your head and not be able to bring the image to live on a canvas. But building a skill like painting brings immense pride and it’s that much more satisfying when an art piece comes out exactly how you imagined it, even if it was just a feeling you wanted to invoke.
Self-expression
For many of our artists, they are in a very low point in their life and day-to-day life is hard. The art is a way for them to escape and find piece for a few hours a week. The artists put a lot of their heart in to their art and it shows. Each piece tells a story even if you don’t really understand what the background quite is. The paintings are emotional and thought provoking and reflect the humanity and love the artists feel. It shows the artists that what they feel and have to say matters and when people show interest in their art it in turn shows the artists that they matter.
