Art From the Streets to Celebrate Women
There are countless things to do in Austin this week, as February ends and the month of March arrives. Because it is a city chock full of creatives and makers, art in Austin is often in the spotlight. You are sure to find several Austin art events all year round; but March is Women’s History Month, so many of the unique things to do in Austin will be Women’s History Month activities. Why not take in a women’s art show to start the month of March off with both in mind? As Women’s History Month begins, Art From the Streets presents the AFTS Women's Show!
From ancient times to the present, throughout every era and art movement, women around the world have made great contributions to the world through art. Female artists have changed the art world by persevering in their commitment to their craft, even as societal expectations were against them throughout history. Women have been and continue to be integral members of the visual arts world, adding vibrancy and diversity to the creative community with their artistic vision. March is Women's History Month, a time dedicated to celebrating and showcasing the contributions of women to the world.
Art From the Streets (AFTS) is thrilled to present the AFTS Women’s Show as the first art show of 2022 in their new studio. Located in East Austin, the 2000 square foot AFTS space in the Canopy community of local artists, gallerists, and other creatives is the perfect place to shine a light on the art of transient women during Women’s History Month. The AFTS Women's Show will celebrate many of the female artists who participate in the classes, open studio time, and other events on offer from the AFTS organization. The AFTS family is looking forward to showcasing artwork created by the artists from the start and into the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic; they are excited to display pieces that show the growth and evolution of the artists themselves, noting shifts in their creativity and artistic expression.
Plan to take in this great Austin art show this weekend to support women artists experiencing homelessness. The AFTS Women’s Show is being hosted at the AFTS Studio in Canopy’s creative complex, located at 916 Springdale Road, Building 2, #105. The opening of the event is March 5, 2022, with two other showings on March 12 and March 19. The studio/gallery will be open to the public from 1-6 pm on each date. You will be able to view and purchase art at the event.
Do you want to know how to help homeless people get back on their feet?
