ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
AFTS is SO EXCITED to collaborate with this amazing group of innovators, pioneers, prolific creators and mad geniuses, all working on a large scale in the public sphere, and adapting their unique vision, mission and drive to a surprising array of media and styles.
Austin is home to hundreds of artists and muralists, many of whom got their start doing graffiti, although many others have academic roots in fine arts, printing, graphic design and other similar fields. Yet something has attracted and enticed these artists out of the comfort of their studios and brought them onto the streets, to experiment, explore and inspire the masses.
We come together to showcase the breadth and variety of contemporary artworks coming from some of Austin's most renowned graffiti, street and mural artists.
From murals to graffiti, paste ups to light art, ephemeral to permanent and everything in between, this exhibition will provide an education and deep insight into the world of Austin and Central Texas’ most prolific and notorious street artists and creators. Regardless what your definition of the art form is, this Austin art exhibit is sure to intrigue, and maybe even make you question your previous assumptions about what really drives these artists to take their work and passion out into the streets.
With an emphasis on creating Art From [and on] The Streets - we are excited for you to experience this cinematic, abstract street art in Austin!

ART FROM THE STREETS MISSION STATEMENT
Street Art In Austin - AFTS provides a safe and encouraging environment for persons experiencing homelessness and who are at risk. These artistic endeavors form a pathway to self determination, social connections and income generated through the pursuit of their art.
Participants gain access to their creativity, and for some - the determination and discipline necessary to explore it. The personal relationships formed in the weekly studio sessions are invaluable additions to their lives.
In many cases the time spent with the volunteers, patrons and other artists in the open studio sessions are their only positive human interactions of the day. There is a feeling of pride and self-worth experienced, where the usual social hierarchy gets turned on its head, transforming them from faceless homeless people in need of help into the stars of the show.
Purchasing artwork supports the artists directly.
