New East Austin Apartment Complex to House Homeless

Integral Care, the Local Mental Health Authority for Travis County, has partnered with the City of Austin to create Terrace at Oaks Springs, a 4-story, 40,000 sq. ft. apartment complex. This is a 50 resident complex to house homeless citizens, half of which will be veterans.

Mobile Loaves and Fishes, a faith-based non-profit organization in the city of Austin focusing on ending homelessness, has officially broken ground on the second small-home village, which will be designed to serve residents of Austin who are currently homeless. The little village is called the Community First! Village.

Following a ruling from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals - which ruled that it was unconstitutional to prosecute individuals simply for sleeping on the streets, saying it amounted to cruel and unusual punishment - city officials have announced that they will be re-evaluating their homelessness ordinance.
